What are the different types of shower tapware?
Shower Mixers: Shower mixers consist of a single control that manages both the pressure and temperature of the water by blending hot and cold water together.
Wall Top Assemblies: A wall top assembly typically consists of two seperate hot and cold controls that manage the flow of water independently.
Thermostatic Mixers: Equipped with a built-in thermostat and thermostatic valve, thermostatic mixers allow you set and maintain a specific water temperature, regardless of changes in water pressure and hot/cold water supply.
What is the difference between a mixer and an assembly tap?
A shower mixer consists of a single lever or handle that controls both the water flow rate and temperature, whereas an assembly tap consists of two individual taps or controls that control the flow of hot water and cold water separately.
What type of tap can I install in my existing bathroom plumbing setup?
The type of tap that can be installed into your existing shower will often depend on the type of tap that is currently installed. If you are replacing a wall top assembly with new hot and cold taps, you may be able to do so without removing tiles or changing the internal pipework.
However, if you are replacing a mixer or want to install a new mixer, your internal pipework will often need to be changed.
What materials are shower tapware made from?
In Australia, most tapware is constructed from DR Brass or authentic Stainless Steel (e.g. 304 or 316 Stainless Steel). It is important to only consider tapware made from corrosion-resistant materials such as DR Brass or Stainless Steel.
What is WaterMark and does my tapware need to be WaterMark certified?
The WaterMark Certification Scheme is a compulsory accreditation program for plumbing fixtures that ensures that products installed in Australia and New Zealand meet the necessary quality and safety standards.
Tapware that has been WaterMarked Certified will feature a stamp showing a WaterMark trademark, WaterMark licence number and the applicable product specification.
